The hallmark of this endeavor lies in its skillful utilization of soft-toned wood, a versatile material employed for flooring, walls, bespoke furniture, intricate carpentry, and even ceilings. This wood lends a harmonious consistency and warmth that envelops every corner of the apartment. A captivating juxtaposition emerges as wood harmoniously intertwines with a retro green hue in select areas of the apartment, notably in the bar, the cinematic enclave, and the junior bathroom and room. This intriguing interplay of finishes adds depth and character to the living spaces. The apartment serves as an artful canvas, embellished with carefully chosen pieces of artwork that seize attention from every vantage point, commanding a pivotal role in the project's narrative. A house without particular architectural charm, nevertheless the location is ideal with breathtaking views of the sea and pine forests of the south of the island. We immediately noticed in our client an innate curiosity for the local culture and a genuine intention to connect more with the island and its inhabitants. Most summers of his childhood, the family only enjoyed the house and then returned to their hometown in Germany; Today, our client wanted to understands its surroundings and pass on this vision to future generations. Pastry Club Woda by Znamy Się | Bar interiors https://www.architonic.com/en/project/znamy-sie-pastry-club-woda/20744641 Wed, 06 Sep 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>Pastry Club Woda is located in an old boilerhouse within the historic Rother’s Mill complex on Mill Island in Bydgoszcz. It is surrounded by water. It is a popular place that attracts people with cultural events. Mill Island is also closely related to the inland water transport of grain and the production of flour. It was important to us to emphasise those aspects in the interior. For this reason, we decided to focus on colours. Cobalt-coloured floor, bar, and equipment make the water literally flow inside. The streamlined cobalt bar divides the interior in half, this way it navigates the movement of the customers. Everyone flows freely inside to later flow out with the current. The layout and the current do not allow for any sudden turn to the technological area; the direction of movement is as natural as the moving water.</p> <p>Is SOMETHING MORE a club inside a pastry shop or a pastry shop inside a club? It is a combination of two energies. Day and night, water and sun.</p> <p>Ro…

Today, it continues the tradition of a Hanseatic merchant house – but as a modern shopping arcade with office space on the upper floors. The total commercial space amounts to more than 23,000 m² and offers state-of-the-art rental space with high-quality presentation areas and working environments, especially for sustainability-focused fashion brands as well as renowned companies, law firms and medical practices. With its loft-like floor plans and room heights of up to 3.80 m, the Kaufmannshaus offers flexible design options – from open space concepts to separate meeting rooms or individual offices. The conversion to office and commercial space took place in the late 1970s with a new, light-flooded atrium that not only allows plenty of daylight to enter the rows of shops, but also serves as access to the office space. Queens Park House by Tribe Studio Architects | https://www.architonic.com/en/project/tribe-studio-architects-queens-park-house/20744433 Mon, 04 Sep 2023 00:00:00 +0200 A single-storey Californian Bungalow in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, underwent a thoughtful alteration and addition by Tribe, that plays with perceptions of scale whilst respecting the character of the original home and neighbourhood. Responding to a brief for more living space and better connections from living areas to the outdoors, Tribe created an appropriately scaled extension to the main home within which a new upper level is concealed, as well as a new rear-lane garage with studio above. This rationale transformed the typical suburban house and backyard into a light-filled courtyard-style home. The design added volume, with subtlety, while retaining heritage character. The interior spaces are at once elegant and humble, featuring custom-built walnut joinery throughout that brings richness and warmth to the kitchen and living spaces. Tribe Studio Architects

House in Galamares by Vasco Lima Mayer | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/vasco-lima-mayer-house-in-galamares/20744395 Sun, 03 Sep 2023 00:00:00 +0200 I started to design this house while I was still a student. This was my first “solo”, so it is very special to me. The interior has a serene atmosphere and is characterized by spacious and bright spaces. All the choices made respect the minimalist identity of the project, with sober materials and soft tones (beige walls, white slabs, glass, wood and zinc). The beauty of simplicity is felt as a whole but also in the smallest details. However, the main material of this house is the nature found outside. The sliding windows allow one to watchallow to watch a scene painted in green, offering an unobstructed view over the Sintra mountains. The beauty of the landscape demands that the project respect the environment in which it is located. Taking advantage of the land, half of the house is buried, appearing to have only one floor, when seen from the entrance, on the upper level. The use of fine and subtle lines also gives it a certain lightness, making it seem that it has been ther…

The project was a refurbishment intervention of an existing building located on a protected site and conditioned by numerous constraints. From our first site visit, we were stunned by the location and potential the site offered. Despite the many restrictions, our work aimed to respect the existing site and building and preserve part of its history. The original building was somewhat lost in several subsequent extensions with conflicting architectural solutions and a confusing mix between traditional and modern elements. During the development of this project, our starting point was to strip down the buildings to their essence and separate the elements we wanted to keep and the ones we wanted to let go. In this deep refurbishment intervention, there were a few key design iterations that completely shifted the direction of the project, and we were fortunate that our

The series of buildings (totaling more than 3000 m2) were divided into various living and workspaces, including a design studio, a separate projection room, inner courtyard, several bedrooms, and entertainment rooms. The buildings were elegantly joined by a glazed bridge. Arriving via a discreet entrance and a long path of nature, you are welcomed into the main living room with its 5-meter-high ceilings. The addition of an enormous skylight and the lush potted plants help to blur the lines between interior and exterior. Everything here is over-scaled but still welcoming and warm thanks to the contrast of mass-produced pieces from the industrial area cohabitating with luxurious and soft elements like a large fur rug, golden Murano lamps or a brass fireplace. Earthy tones, with the odd col…

Originally conceived as a gated community, located in San Roque, a little municipality 25 km east of Gibraltar overlooking the Mediterranean, in Cadiz, Andalucía. The scope of work was a complete refurbishment of a villa, built in the late seventies. When we first visited the existing building, we came across with an all-white modern home. The original layout comprised the main structure which held the public program including living and dining room, kitchen; four suites, a guest room and a game room. This structure was separated from the pool house, pool and deck by a gardened slope. Minor modifications were made to the core and shell of the project. On the entrance floor, we proposed a multipurpose room with a gym, both surrounded by windows in order to see the ravines of Bosques de las Lomas. These rooms have independent access to the rest of the house. The main access consists of a sculptural wooden staircase that goes down to a study that adjoins the terrace and the garden. On this level, there is a double-height gallery that vestibules the private area of the house. The structural columns that surround the gallery mark the accesses to the bedrooms that adjoin the side garden of the house. This process led the site to consolidate as the city’s industrial district over time. Built in the 1880s for a prominent pastoral family, the house was once the centre of a vast working farm, with attendant outbuildings, stables, kitchen gardens, and a general store which served as a focus for early European settlement in the area. After more than a century in the hands of the family who built it, the house was bought by a young family relocating from the city. Time had not been kind to the buildings, and the new owners faced a substantial amount of work to make the house shine once more. This task was divided into five tranches of work. Restoring the main block of the homestead, restoring the service wing, restoring the old general store, planting a new garden, and finally, restoring the homestead’s bedroom wing. In the main homestead, the most important work was the most prosaic – a new roof, new insulation, thermally-rated glazing, and a mammoth upgrade to the building services. Rainwater recyc…

Walls and ceilings are finished with coarse-grained beige resin, the parquet floor is in dark antique oak, the staircase is in smooth grey resin, the kitchen and details (window frames, door handles, light points) are in matt black. The only colours present are the yellow storage units and the pink bookcase, which conceals the service bathroom. The flared ECLISS…

Oil Mill L'Olinda by ECLISSE | Manufacturer references https://www.architonic.com/en/project/eclisse-oil-mill-l-039olinda/20743476 Fri, 18 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 Immersed in the over ten hectares of centuries-old olive groves of the L'Olinda farm and oil mill in central Italy, this accommodation facility stands in a place of absolute peace and tranquillity. An uncontaminated place that, as such, required special attention, sensitivity and respect for the environment in renovating the main building. The strong relationship between facility and nature was decisive in the design choices. This resulted in a project based on the principles of green building and environmental sustainability strongly felt by the young owners. Being a new construction and not a renovation of the existing, the project was able to combine tradition with the new, also using forms and materials of the latest architectural trends. The facing brick of the façade, for example, used bricks from the demolition of the original 19th-century farmhouse and elegantly matches the bleached wood used for the roof and ceilings, a choice that lightens the structure's imposing appearan…

Sunset Harbour VII by Studio RODA | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/studio-roda-sunset-harbour-vii/20743350 Thu, 17 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 An Eclectic Jewel Box A small 1,200 SF condo renovation in Sunset Harbour, Miami Beach overlooking bay views. As a design brief, the clients requested a compact space strategically designed to have hidden storage and enhance the use of the small floor space with built-in seating. The driving concept for the design was a calm space that reflected the couple’s eclectic and modern aesthetic. With a nod to design motifs from the 70’s, the space features warm wood paneling, a custom banquette, and unconventional methods to maximize the space; for example, we were able to create a niche for the sofa in the living room, which provided us with an opportunity to create a desk niche on the opposite side in the main bedroom. A project highlight was the custom table made for the dining area. Fabricated by Ranieri Lava Stone in Italy, it is made of enameled lava stone in a yellow curry color. The table is a one-of-a-kind piece that follows the curvature of the banquette seating to accentua…

The curved shapes give the building a unique aesthetic and make it an eye-catcher. The collaboration with swissFineLine has proven to be the ideal to turn the architectural vision into reality. It creates 33 connections among 10 Museum buildings to link the entire campus and establishes a new entrance on the Museum’s west side, at Columbus Avenue and 79th Street, in Theodore Roosevelt Park. Visitors coming from Columbus Avenue experience the Gilder Center as a building set in a park, constructed at the same height as the older Museum buildings that flank it, with flowing, gentle curves. Adjacent areas of the park have been enhanced with a new landscape design, developed by Reed Hilderbrand with community input, which features more pathways and seating areas.</p> <p class="p1">Offering a visual link between the two sides of the campus, the Gilder Center’s undulating façade, with its inviting expanses of bird-safe fritted glass, is clad in Milford pink granite, the same stone used on the Central…

The refreshing tropical modern design pulls one right into the warmth of the sunset, capturing the essence of it like no other. The first challenge here is combining the distinctive design elements of the house and terrace – an ingenious resolution is found in the creation of a semi-outdoor transitional space leading to a floating staircase. The intricately woven teak beaded door and the crimson in the antique <em>kumkum</em> (a traditional Indian red turmeric powder) box installation pop against the warm tone of the wood and the oxide finish wall in this space. The achromatic swing hanging over the verdant green rug further offsets the subtle colors, easing us into the color palette of the adjacent rooms.</p> <p>The terrace is surrounded by greenery and the city softly disappears into the sky to make us feel like we are…

Casa Enso II by HW Studio | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/hw-studio-casa-enso-ii/20743250 Tue, 15 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 When work began on this small house and after thorough historical research, it was concluded that there are few places in Mexico with a constructive identity as strong as Guanajuato.  This is clearly reflected in its architecture, kitchen utensils, aqueducts, legends, and even in its heroes such as the Pípila, who carries a huge rock on his back so that the bullets of the conservatives would not reach his regiment. In this area of the country, the stone is an element deeply rooted in any form of cultural expression. For this reason, the material for this architectural piece was very easily and naturally chosen.  In addition, there was a materials bank and capable labor nearby; a dialogue of respect between the artifice and its environment was encouraged. The entire complex is organized on the basis of a cruciform plan; thus, the space is divided into four quadrants by a cross of stone alleys defining the paths, framing all moments, and separating one quadrant from the other. …

For this exciting residential project in Frankfurt, Germany, the modern cantilevered treads have been combined with a classic artistic hand forged steel balustrade. The contrast gives makes the effect. Filled with artwork and sculptures, our foyer staircase is just one out of many features. Still, with the mirrored flights on each side of the foyer and the floating landing at the exit, this staircase is still the center piece of the house. When redesigning the Black Forest Hotel, regional traditions and a strong connection to nature were of central importance. The owners Manfred Streit and daughter Simone Weber have integrated the DNA and identification with the homeland in all areas. In doing so, they were always careful not to slip into nostalgic kitsch and thus relied on modern, homely and multifunctional furniture from Brunner, the design contract furniture manufacturer from Baden - which is now one of Europe's leading manufacturers in its sector. Among the items used were products from the A, ray and fina collections, the award-winning halm hybrid chair, pads upholstered furniture and seminar equipment from the team and torino ranges. Overlooking a hillside full of mature greenery, the historic 1900s apartment building features several well-preserved elements dating back to the time when apartments were generous and charming. The main objective was to remove the accumulation of disparate structures, tiles, ceilings, and layout changes, to clean the passages, and to give the apartment back its original dimensions and atmosphere. Thanks to the utmost trust and mutual respect with the investor, we could afford to largely break through the openings, remove the doors and add transom windows instead. We removed the walk-through rooms and designed a more contemporary layout with two separate bedrooms and a connected living core. In the living room, we focused on lightening the layout and opening the space. A kitchen unit was inserted into a…

Several things begin to happen in the group which would be impossible for the isolated building. We may walk through and past buildings, and as a corner is turned, an unsuspected building is suddenly revealed.” In the Serial Vision Home, a big, wide hallway serves as the leading spine of the space. The house’s walls, which are understood as an integral structure, create a feeling of transition while passing them by, giving each room a distinct character and atmosphere. In this sense, the body of walls of this Barcelona home becomes a metaphor for Cullen’s group of buildings. Casa Dosmurs by Mesura | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/mesura-casa-dosmurs/20741723 Wed, 02 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 THE SEA AND THE MOUNTAIN: AN INTRINSIC RELATIONSHIP The project is located in a residential area on the outskirts of Alella, one of the coastal towns in El Maresme, Spain. The neighbourhood spans along the mountain’s hillside with an eclectic mix of architectural styles, which causes a sense of discord and disharmony around the site. Because of the steep slope and the closeness between houses, the only open view from the site is towards the sea. On the lower ground of the plot, native trees have grown spontaneously and frame the mountainous countryside, which unfolds in a continuation of rolling hills. TOPOGRAPHY AS AN ALLY: MAKING THE MOST OF A DIFFICULT PLOT Achieving a direct connection between architecture and its surroundings is a constant throughout our practice. In this case, being a single-family house surrounded by neighbours, we follow a different premise: the house is set apart from the street and adjacent constructions by hiding between two bare walls that follo…

CoCo Cha Taiwan Tea & Coffee by PT Arch Studio | Café interiors https://www.architonic.com/en/project/pt-arch-studio-coco-cha-taiwan-tea-amp-coffee/20741658 Tue, 08 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>The main idea is to create a classic castle in the middle of a modern city. with the combination of two timeless architectures, to create a strong contrast in design intent. The weakness of the construction site is that the width is too small, and the length is too deep. The problem is how to get harmonious light for the entire space inside the building, as well as not create the feeling of moving too far between different spaces for customers.</p> <p>The solution proposed by PT Arch studio is to divide the length into 4 different parts, the first part is the counter area, and the second part is the stairs area because this location is not too far for customers to move to the next floor. The third part is the coffee space, and the last part is the storage area and restroom. These 4 areas will be linked together by skylights and green spaces, to create a strong layout.</p> <p>Light will be the focus of the design concept, and users will enjoy the atrium space, without feeling constra…

Due to the early 2020s pandemic, people started to acknowledge the presence of open space in communal space. The core of the history lies in the main building located at the front area, where once ‘Tiloejane’ was sculpted to mark the identity of Cilaki 33.</p> <p>The site comes with several building masses, where the original building was formed by a 30 cm-thick wall without any supporting column or beam from reinforced concrete. The other building masses spread organically topping one another due to different activities required by different owners, creating disorganized layout functions, and leaving many site problems ranging from structural to maintenance issues. The beauty of the original building remains unseen due to disarranged layers of additional buildings.  Thus, the finding has led to a decision to demolish inef…

Cafeteria Montibeller To Go by Térreo Arquitetos | Café interiors https://www.architonic.com/en/project/terreo-arquitetos-cafeteria-montibeller-to-go/20741656 Mon, 07 Aug 2023 00:00:00 +0200 The program of the coffee shop is given by the set of products offered to customers, quick service for personalized coffees and preparation of meals served on site. Therefore, the main challenge was to articulate the functionality of equipment, food handling, finishing of dishes, service counter, and space for tables and chairs for customers in a small space (25m²). Additionally, it was crucial to have direct customer service contact with the public space. The coffee shop facade opens onto the sidewalk, where service is provided from the outside directly to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. An invitation to pause, meet, chat, and even take your coffee to accompany your walk through the city streets. The room has a 25m² area, and the challenge was to adapt the program required by the client to this space. Therefore, the floor plan was organized into two sectors, one for service and service counter, delimited by counters that shape the space, and the other sector to receive the…

It has the brand's characteristics but it was set up in a completely different way from the others, where the standard white color of the other stores was rethought from scratch and positioned in a way that embraces the local architecture, a result of the union of two constructions. The access is made after a large setback, giving access to the front garden, which has custom furniture and a large space with trees. The entrance to the store takes place through an arch that mimics the brand's symbol and makes the consumer feel invited to enter the space. The predominance of white and minimalist design in the interior of the environment makes room for the pastries and their products to be the highlight of the environment. Elements such as window frames and even an arch that marked the union of the two houses were maintained and integrated into the program, whe…

Bismarck House by Andrew Burges Architects | https://www.architonic.com/en/project/andrew-burges-architects-bismarck-house/20739561 Sun, 25 Jul 2021 00:00:00 +0200 <p>The Bismarck House is the younger sibling of a pair of semi-detached dwellings in Bondi. The design uses raw materials and sculpted spaces to integrate house and garden while orchestrating social interactions between the more public areas of the house and the laneway that runs along the semi’s northern boundary.</p> <p>Our conceptual starting point for the project was to map the detailed context of the laneway: a long thin footprint immediately adjacent to the gritty rear-lane access for multiple commercial properties fronting onto Bondi Rd.</p> <p>Into this context the ground floor of the house was conceived spatially and materially as a continuous garden between the boundary walls of the site. The brick common wall of the semi to the south was exposed and the new laneway edge to the north was rebuilt using bricks recycled from the site demolition. The garden is formed around key figures within the plan: the kitchen bench, a window seat to the lane, a concrete structural blade wall…

NEW AARE BRIDGE by Christ & Gantenbein | Infrastructure buildings https://www.architonic.com/en/project/christ-amp-gantenbein-new-aare-bridge/20739117 Tue, 18 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 The new Aare Bridge in Aarau, Switzerland, designed by the planning team Christ & Gantenbein, WMM Ingenieure AG, Henauer Gugler AG, and August + Margrith Künzel Landschaftsarchitekten AG, is both a modern infrastructure con - struction and a part of the city. Replacing a 1949 concrete bridge, the new structure blends organically into Aarau’s distinctive cityscape and the natural environment of the Aare river while strengthening the region’s transportation network. As a com - prehensive bridge and riverbank design, the project creates an appealing urban space, and with its distinctive, elegantly curved arches, becomes a new landmark. Since Roman times, there has been a bridge over the Aare at this location – from the historical city center over the Zollrain towards the north, to the Jura. This bridge has been replaced several times by new structures, including the 1848 “Ketten - brücke” and a concrete bridge from 1949. As such, the competition which sought a replacement for the agin…

Station Forecourt Zwolle by PosadMaxwan | Engineering structures https://www.architonic.com/en/project/posadmaxwan-station-forecourt-zwolle/20738982 Tue, 18 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p class="p1">PosadMaxwan, an urban design firm from The Hague, The Netherlands, has designed the unique main entrance to the underground bicycle parking area located beneath the city of Zwolle’s train station square. For the first time ever, the greenery of a station square has been extended to meet up with an underground parking garage, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and the outdoors. Cyclists are guided down the ramps by a sloping green garden with plants that change with the seasons.</p> <p class="p1">Zwolle is known as a city with an abundance of bicycles and so accessibility for cyclists is a high priority. In 2018, the city decided to redesign the train station square to allow travelers to bike to and from the station as comfortably as possible. From the beginning of the design process of the underground bicycle parking, our goal was to implement natural elements into the entrance areas on the station square. We figured that the most logical way to create a n…

The strong local hydraulic constraints have been treated in a gentle way, by the landscape. The declination of the hydraulic structures participates in the creation of the atmospheres and the sequences of wandering.</p> <p class="Body">The cemetery is embedded in the topography of the site and organized around the natural path of the flow of water, this interlocking of the different scales makes it possible to gr…

Belvedere Stairs by Bertrand Taquet Architectes | Engineering structures https://www.architonic.com/en/project/bertrand-taquet-architectes-belvedere-stairs/20738980 Mon, 17 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>The Dunois school group was built in the second half of the 1970s. It is located in the Chevaleret district, an example of the "slab urbanism" that was very present at that time. The school is bordered by the "Pyramides" towers, iconic buildings of the 13th arrondissement of Paris.</p> <p>The school complex is designed in a staircase, with each level set back from the one below. The stairs are one of the major elements of architecture. A functional element but one that offers multiple possibilities in its design. This major element could even be interpreted as an allegory of architecture. It concentrates on a technicality, use, design, poetry, and all other components of architectural thinking. </p> <p>The Dunois staircase provides independent access to the "urban farm" roof developed and maintained by the association "Les fourmis qui jardinent". In addition to creating an easy pathway, the wide, high platform offers a general view of all the green roofs. This staircase connects two…

Before, it was a busy junction not at all resident-friendly. Now, a square has been created there, with 22 maples, urban furniture, and pedestrian priority. WXCA is responsible for the design. This fragment of the city has been one of the busiest places in the capital for over 100 years. Since the 1960s, mostly vehicle traffic encroached into this space, slowly pushing pedestrians out, although they still constituted a significant portion of those traveling through it. This space recently underwent a spectacular metamorphosis and a pedestrian priority urban square with mature trees and modern small architecture elements was designed here. Vehicle traffic has been reduced to public transport and it has resident and fire service access only. “Most of all, we wanted to hand this part of the city over to the residents,” the architects at WXCA explained.</p> <p>The new Five Corners Square was opened on 5th July…

Prior to the design process, the space had no partitions, and all the apartment's windows faced only one side. Our task was to design the space in such a way that the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and office would have natural light. Therefore, we divided the bedroom and office with a glass and wood partition, while the kitchen and living room were combined in a single space. Closer to the entrance, we arranged a wardrobe and a bathroom behind other partitions. By the way, we also managed to introduce some natural light into the bathroom through a skylight. The clients preferred natural materials and subdued colors, so the interior's foundation is reflected in the walls, which are painted in a matte white. Additional finishes were done with oak and ash veneer, as well as natural stone in the bathroom. The floors in all rooms are made of oak parquet, and the bathroom features partially poured flooring. Its main facade is composed of parallel vertical axes where elongated window openings are aligned. It stands out for its classic balustrades on the balconies and semi-circular arches in its openings. On one hand, the preexistence, of incalculable value, constituted the starting point for the 1928 housing project. And when classical elements are combined with contemporary intervention, the result is a magical fusion. A juxtaposition of eras and a contrast of styles bring great value to the intervention. A dialogue that speaks of respect and the passage of time. On the other hand, the property owners have a sensitivity and love for art and design which undoubtedly has brought fundamental value to the intervention. In short, historic architecture, contemporary intervention with fine lines and curves, and art come together in this work that shines for its sensitivity. Fur…

As architects, interior designers and landscape designers, BELL Architecture, were keenly aware that the new office home needed acoustic control. The client desired a calming, earthy and organic workplace to counteract the loud and fast paced work environment. This was particularly important in the kitchen and break out areas, where the exposed hard-surface ceilings cause a lot of noise to bounce off, impeding users to work comfortably, collaborate and relax. The Array 24mm acoustic ceiling baffles in Woven Image’s standard Valley design were chosen to combat the acoustic issue. They enable the ceiling space to absorb noise and reduce the total level of sound reverberation whilst adding a key visual feature of this space. While this workplace project was conceived prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, its design was grounded in health and wellness, so it lends itself well to new health-focused workspace parameters as people begin to return to the office.  Mintz’s leadership asked for a design that would: Help employees feel supported and cared for – the well-being of the firm’s workforce was a top priority. -Have the built-in flexibility to evolve as the firm’s business needs respond to changing priorities. -Feel fresh, light-filled, personal, and eclectic, while also being highly efficient. -Be aesthetically understated and unpretentious, while using timeless, top-quality materials. -Create a serene home base for their attorneys and support staff to offset the stress of their high-powered law practice. -Demonstrate the superi…

IMPACT HUB BERLIN by LXSY Architekten | Office facilities https://www.architonic.com/en/project/lxsy-architekten-impact-hub-berlin/20736568 Thu, 06 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 The material concept of circular building operates in the range between "using something as it is" and "upcycling". In terms of aesthetics, LXSY Architekten consciously want to dispel preconceptions about second-hand design. Despite the use of diverse materials, there is a strong focus on a clear-cut, homogeneous and high-quality design. With Impact Hub Berlin at CRCLR-House, a co-working space is opening for a new generation of entrepreneurs who focus on the circular economy, sustainable food, diversity & inclusion and green tech. In addition to the building's use, its construction is infused with an awareness of conserving resources. The interior design by LXSY Architekten reflects how the preservation of existing buildings and the use of sustainable, renewable and recycled materials can transform tomorrow's construction in a positive way. Overlooking Batroun’s historic waterfront, the restaurant is imbued in warm tints and yellow accents that simulate natural sunlight. Light white tablecloths give off a classic Brasserie feel. Elegant irocco wood dominates the space from floor to ceiling, blending seamlessly with the terrace’s paneling. The bold yellow bar takes center stage: its fractal design is an interpretation of solar rays, while its soft brightness alludes to golden hour. Handmade with a mix of sand and epoxy, by Lebanese artist Nelsy Massoud, it is echoed across the space through glass-blown custom wall appliques, and an oversized hand-crafted chandelier – all executed by local artisans – bathing the interior in warm lighting. With a menu by award-winning chef Youssef Akiki, guests can feast on decadent Levantine meals, and sip intricate cocktails created by Beir…

Pistohiekka Resort by Studio Puisto | Restaurants https://www.architonic.com/en/project/studio-puisto-pistohiekka-resort/20736194 Thu, 06 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 Pistohiekka sauna-restaurant is the first step towards rebuilding the Pistohiekka resort area which flourished until the 1980s but has since disappeared. The project brings long-awaited services back to the area in the form of a lakeside sauna and a restaurant. Pistohiekka sauna-restaurant is one of the key development sites in Studio Puisto’s design for developing tourism and wood construction in Pistohiekka. The concept boasts a strong design aesthetic based on a central, curved outdoor space with the restaurant and sauna spaces spiraling around it. The buildings are situated on a lakeside lot amongst existing trees where they blend into the delicate Saimaa scenery with their dark exteriors, contrasted by the inviting and warm light wooden interiors. In the sauna- the restaurant itself, the lakeside sceneries and terraced outdoor leisure areas play an important part. The guests can enjoy summertime sunsets between high-quality restaurant meals and leisurely lounging in the sauna.…

Raga Svara Wellness Center by Shanmugam Associates | Hotels https://www.architonic.com/en/project/shanmugam-associates-raga-svara-wellness-center/20736193 Wed, 05 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>Raga Svara, as in the words of its founders, focuses on the therapeutic, aesthetic, philosophical, and ecological well-being of oneself in conjunction with the surroundings. Raga’s logo “Pause” indicates all those who enter this green haven consciously pause in time, reflect, listen to the body in synergy with nature, and get rejuvenated in an educational way. With such a clear vision for Raga, the onus on the architects was to make minimal interventions in the existing landscape and have nature take precedence.</p> <p>The linearity of the site, old trees with huge canopies, agricultural land, location adjacent to the Rajkot- Bhavnagar highway, and natural site terrain were primary factors that steered the architects to take a biophilic approach to design. Zoning was done with relevance to huge banyan and peepal trees at the site. The architectural language was delineated by exploring basic aspects of roofs, walls, and floors. Floors interweaved inside and outside with landscape; wa…

The form is characterized by raw concrete allowing the organic sensibilities of the site to be the hero and cultivate a language between built form and landscape. The façade’s ribbed texture, bronze glass, and metallic finishes add an of element robustness and minor intervention amongst the natural surroundings. Space of Muwi Stay by Atelier ITCH | Hotels https://www.architonic.com/en/project/atelier-itch-space-of-muwi-stay/20736191 Tue, 04 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p><strong>'Yoga is the practice of calming the constant wave of the mind.'</strong><em> </em>The verse is found in Chapter 1:2 of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, a book containing yoga teachings. While practicing yoga, we close our eyes and breathe deeply and slowly in and out in repetition. This is a simple, silent practice of concentrating on one's inner movements. The inner power of reaching complete unity with the universe lies behind the body's movement to perform yoga. The ability to listen to my inner voice through breathing and moving, the ability to come to terms with who I truly am through a complete understanding of myself, and the ability to accept myself as I am, are all fundamental aspects of yoga.</p> <p>As a literal translation, Muwi(無爲) means "doing nothing," but there is also a meaning of "sheer naturalism," which means "nothing artificial." As it is, it is about stopping acting against the natural flow of things and accepting them as they are. It is the act of removing the…

Sauna Sazae by Kengo Kuma & Associates | Therapy centres / spas https://www.architonic.com/en/project/kengo-kuma-amp-associates-sauna-sazae/20736190 Tue, 04 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>The organic wooden sauna “SAZAE” is built at the center of the glamping facility “SANA MANE” near the small inlet of Naoshima.</p> <p>The biggest challenge was the wood masonry, made by stacking 150 layers of CNC-processed 28 mm thick plywood. The solid wood sauna has an average wall thickness of 450 mm to ensure the performance of heat insulation and heat retention.</p> <p>The exterior has countless folds like a shell, giving the surface an impressive shadow. Inside, the pleats are shaped gently to conform to the body and provide a comfortable sitting experience. Only the oculus lets light in, creating a meditative experience.</p> <p>Although this spiral pleated geometry was complex using 1,500 plywood sheets, the design of the shape and the plywood paneling were controlled by 3D CAD and programming.</p> <p>Unlike a general sauna, despite the high ceiling, the temperature and humidity are kept at an optimum level by making full use of environmental simulations and designing forced…

SPIELFELD Digital Hub by LXSY Architekten | Office facilities https://www.architonic.com/en/project/lxsy-architekten-spielfeld-digital-hub/20736184 Tue, 04 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 <p>The former post office building made of red brick in Berlin’s Skalitzer Strasse, a historic listed building, has become a new and lively site for innovation. When designing the Co-Working and Event-Space Digital Hub SPIELFELD, LXSY ARCHITEKTEN focused on revisiting the history of the building. Selected historical elements have been incorporated into the design, in cooperation with the heritage protection agency.</p> <p>The main focus of the heritage protection agency in the Digital Hub SPIELFELD was the former hexagonal post office counter hall. As the new location emphasises exploring digitalization, the interior space is shaped by the fixed position of a stage and surrounding break-out areas for workshops, which are divided by curtains, meaning that it can be flexibly divided as needed. The entrance is via the new foyer, which following a reworking of the ceiling also has the original hexagonal shape. The publicly accessible area includes an open café, meeting rooms, flexible co-w…

Casa Cedros by Aagnes | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/aagnes-casa-cedros/20734813 Sun, 02 Jul 2023 00:00:00 +0200 Casa Cedros is one of the most recent projects for the studio and undoubtedly encompasses entirely Aagnes's aesthetic. The house is located in Tapalpa, a town in the southern mountains of the state of Jalisco, in Mexico. The architectural project was design by Sergio Ortiz, a renowned architect who has taken up from his own voice the most outstanding elements of the so-called Tapatío School of Architecture (also known as Mexican Regionalism with its origins in Guadalajara). In his work we not only find references to Luis Barragán, Rafael Urzúa or Pedro Castellanos, but also a genuine appropriation of what has marked Mexican Regionalism: chiaroscuro that detonate new spaces, the use of local and brute materials such as cedar and black quarry, and perhaps one one of the greatest successes of this artistic movement: the patio as a leading element. Casa Cedros is synonymous with all of this, in which we find a sophisticated use of wood and stone—materials from the forests of Jalisco—whe…

Stoos Lodge by IDA14 | Hotel interiors https://www.architonic.com/en/project/ida14-stoos-lodge/20734467 Thu, 29 Jun 2023 00:00:00 +0200 The aim of our interior design is to create a lifestylish, urban and warm atmosphere that stands out from the usual pseudo-traditional clichés of mountain lodges. We create a contemporary design with clean lines and use of local woods. Simple materials are handcrafted to a high standard. Traditional details, implemented in a modern way, refer to the mountain world and history of Stoos: For example, we have enlarged and abstracted historical silver ornaments from Central Switzerland into the concrete walls of the corridors of the entire building. The Mythen Lounge, which is glazed all around, features a large-scale neon light installation that refers to the Stoos fable of the talking cat. The new Stoos Lodge building (G&A Architekten AG, Altdorf) with 101 rooms and suites and generous catering, children's play, daycare, gym and seminar room areas stands at the terminus of the Stoos funicular. STONEHOUSE by Michela Ekstrom | Detached houses https://www.architonic.com/en/project/michela-ekstrom-stonehouse/20734421 Wed, 28 Jun 2023 00:00:00 +0200 The Stonehouse is extremely solid on the outside, hollow and light on the inside. A small building entirely covered with travertine. “Da lontano era un’isola”, it looks like one of Munari’s stones. It is a fortress that presents a strong dichotomy between inside and outside. You have to knock on the travertine door to enter, and when you get in the interior becomes a cavum, a void that generates continuous changes of perception. Faced with an extremely small surface, the strategy was to work with space and with the theme of looking and being looked, contemplating as a creative act. A double-height space, a mezzanine, a glazed patio, a closed terrace with an open window on the sunset, an outdoor fireplace, a corner swimming pool, all these elements relate to generate continuous changes of scenarios. The common thread is the material. Always and only travertine, as an obsession. The condition of the plot and the detachments from neighbors shaped the plan of the house. The bui…

It can be rented for seasonal apparel brand looks, product photography with models for e-commerce sites, and exhibitions. As a result of its purpose, most of the space is taken up by plain white walls, wooden walls, white ceilings, and simple concrete floors, which are needed by many users.</p> <p>The challenge was how to create a unique photo spot just by this studio within that situation. The fifth floor features a concrete staircase and a concrete box that encases the elevator. The staircase itself has been polished to reveal the encapsulated gravel. By designing an irregular stonework sculptural staircase amidst the orderly white walls and concrete floor, the staircase becomes more than just a means of transportation - it becomes a stay that accentuates the clothes, shoes, and models.</p> <p>As a photography studio, the sixth floor's flat shape inevitably created some dead space. Recoletos I by Sierra + de la Higuera | Living space https://www.architonic.com/en/project/sierra-de-la-higuera-recoletos-i/20734090 Mon, 26 Jun 2023 00:00:00 +0200 Located in one of the most unique buildings on Paseo de Recoletos, this space has particular features, such as the curved windows looking onto the street and the lengthwise load-bearing wall creating a long corridor. This was critical when creating the layout and adapting to the needs conveyed by the client. The large entryway displays a checkerboard floor and boasts a specifically designed green-lacquered piece of furniture that delimits the entryway on one side and is used as a coat closet on the other. A 1960s Italian table designed by Ettore Sottsass with a round base, a Carrara marble top and a black metal cylindrical column determines the circulation and makes the entryway more engaging, along with the ‘Eros’ console table by Angelo Mangiarotti. The hallway connects the three bedrooms.
