Book of the Month

You Need To Read This If You Hate Your Job And Want To Quit Like A Millionaire

This book is life-changing

If you’re reading this, chances are you hate your job. Or maybe you just don’t want to work. You want a way out, you want that financial freedom. You’re not alone, that’s where I’m at too. The first step I took was research. Research, research, research. And this book was actually the first book I read during my financial freedom journey. I absolutely love this book and recommend it to everyone I know, and that’s why my pick for March Book of the Month is Quit Like a Millionaire: No Gimmicks, Luck, or Trust Fund Required by Kristy Shen.

I’ve actually mentioned this book in a previous article because I truly believe it’s life-changing. It’s also my first non-fiction book of the month!

If you’re anything like me, you hate boring non-fiction books. I get it. And that’s why I stayed away from financial self-help books for years. But take my word for it when I say Kristy Shen is a genius. She writes this book in a way that makes it relatable, witty and hard to put down. I’ve actually read it 3 times now, and I never re-read books.

Kristy starts off by explaining her rough childhood living in extreme poverty in China. She was so poor that she didn’t have any dolls, instead she rummaged through junkyards and made dolls from used medical supplies and other garbaged items she found. She had the ultimate rags to riches story, proving that wealth isn’t just for those born into it, or those born with special qualities that help them invent the next Facebook. Financial freedom is for everyone.

She details how she saw firsthand how the stress of corporate life affects people and she didn’t want to be controlled by a job for the rest of her life. So she created a method that got her to retire in her 30s. She has this method down to a mathematical equation, where no matter what age you are, there’s a way for you to retire early.

She covers everything from stocks, funds, Roth IRAs, 401ks, Cash Cushions, even picking a college major to set you up for success. This book really is for everyone and I wish I read it sooner. I especially recommend this book if you are in high school about to start your college career, or if you just graduated college and feel stuck on where to go next.
