Ultimate List of Valentine’s Day Fragrance Gifts For Your Man

And before you ask, Dior Sauvage is NOT on the list

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and even though it’s considered a woman’s holiday, I think some of our men need to be treated too! With the help of my boyfriend Mark (who is very well-educated in the fragrance world) here’s the ultimate list of amazing colognes your man will love.

And listen, I know buying a fragrance for someone is hard even if you know them super well. It’s such a personal gift that it can feel stressful if you don’t buy “the right one”. That’s where I come in. This article only includes universally well-known and loved colognes so you’re sure to pick the perfect fragrance. I even broke them down into categories to help you find the cologne that would best fit your man.

If He’s Into The Trends:

Replica By the Fireplace by Maison Margela

I absolutely LOVE this fragrance (read my review about it here!). If he loves keeping up with the trends, this is the perfect fragrance for him. Maison Margiela is super in right now, and By The Fireplace is the best in the Replica collection in my opinion. It’s woody, smoky, sweet, and overall completely encapsulating.

Aventus Millesime by Creed

If he follows the trends and doesn’t have Aventus, this is the one you need to get him. Aventus is one of the most popular men’s fragrances at the moment and for good reason. This fragrance is fruity, with notes of pineapple, apple and vanilla, but is balanced by more masculine notes like birch, musk and bergamot. Creed has made its mark in the fragrance world, so Aventus is a no-brainer.

Bleu de Chanel by Chanel

Blue de Chanel is one of the most popular men’s fragrances right now. So if he’s trendy, he needs this. It’s citrusy, spicy and woody. A super sophisticated and sensual fragrance that every man would love.

Bad Boy by Carolina Herrera

The bottle alone screams trendy. Bad Boy is now a staple in almost every man’s cologne collection. Carolina Herrera knows what she’s doing when it comes to fragrances. Bad Boy has strong pepper and bergamot top notes, cedar middle notes and tonka bean, cocoa and amberwood base notes. This creates the ultimate warm spicy fragrance that every trendsetter will love.

If He Loves Designer Brands:

The One by Dolce & Gabbana

This is another staple cologne that every man needs. It’s a warm, citrusy, masculine scent with amazing wear. Top notes are Grapefruit, Coriander and Basil; middle notes are Ginger, Cardamom and Orange Blossom; base notes are Amber, Tobacco and Cedar. I absolutely love when my boyfriend wears this. No doubt that your man will love this timeless scent as well.

Y by YSL

This is the perfect everyday scent for any man. It’s so unoffensive and the DNA is beautiful. With a blend of sweet notes like apple and tonka bean mixed with woodsy notes like cedarwood, you really can’t go wrong with this delicious YSL cologne.

L’homme by YSL

L’homme is easily one of the most recognizable colognes in the male fragrance world. This fragrance has been dominating the fragrance aisle for at least a decade now. Top notes are Ginger, Bergamot and Lemon; middle notes are Spices, Violet Leaf, White Pepper and Basil; base notes are Tonka Bean, Cedar and Tahitian Vetiver. If you want to play it safe, this crowd-pleasing fragrance is the one you need to get.

Luna Rossa by Prada

I absolutely love the entire Prada Luna Rossa line thanks to my boyfriend Mark (the only exception is Luna Rossa Ocean, you can find out why I don’t like that one here). This scent is so clean, refreshing and unoffensive. It’s an approachable scent that anyone can pull off for everyday wear. Top notes are Lavender and Bitter Orange; middle notes are Mint and Clary Sage; base notes are Ambrette (Musk Mallow) and Ambroxan.

If He’s New to Cologne:

Luna Rossa Sport by Prada

This one is much warmer than it’s original Luna Rossa counterpart. It has the same lavendar note, but is balanced by vanilla and tonka bean making it much more sweet, but still super clean and fresh. This is the ultimate everyday scent and is so well-loved, making it the perfect gift for a man who is brand new to the cologne world.

Touch by Burberry

Burberry fragrances exude elegance, this one being no exception. Touch is the ultimate cozy fragrance. It’s not an assertive fragrance, and with notes like white musk, cedar and nutmeg this is the perfect clean everyday fragrance.

Mont Blanc Legend by Mont Blanc

This is the go-to fresh, fruity fragrance. Mont Blanc Legend has an array of fruity notes, like pineapple, lemon verbena, red apple, and dried fruit. It also comes in with a fresh, clean scent due to lavendar, tonka bean and bergamot notes. It’s a bit soapy but in the best way possible. If he’s not familiar with colognes and would like something safe, this is your best bet.

If He’s Super Casual:

Explorer by Mont Blanc

Explorer is a woody, citrusy fragrance with some of my favorite notes in its DNA, like bergamot, pink pepper, leather, and oud. This fragrance actually has a cult-following because it’s said to be extremely similar to Aventus (mentioned above) but way cheaper!

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana

I absolutely love this fragrance because it’s so simple but powerful. At first spray this is super citrusy due to the prevalent grapefruit and mandarin notes, but then dries down to a fresh spicy/woody scent. It’s a super casual daytime scent that anyone can rock.

Spicebomb by Viktor and Rolf

You’ve definitely heard the hype behind this one. Spicebomb is a favorite in the cologne world because it’s so simple but so masculine. Top notes are Pink Pepper, Bergamot and Grapefruit; middle notes are Cinnamon, Saffron and Paprika; base notes are Tobacco, Leather and Vetiver. This is the type of fragrance that can be worn year-round, dressed up or casual.

If He’s A Sharp Dresser:

Carlisle by Parfums de Marly

This cologne is so slept on. First off, anything from Parfums de Marly gives off royalty vibes. It’s the ultimate classy cologne collection. Carlisle in particular is one of my favorites (and my boyfriend’s as well). Top notes are Nutmeg and Green Apple; middle notes are Tonka Bean and Rose; base notes are Patchouli and Vanilla. It’s woody, it’s warm, it’s masculine, it’s sophisticated. Trust me on this one, if you’re going to blind buy him a fragrance this is the one.

Percival by Parfums de Marly

Another elegant fragrance from Parfums de Marly. This one is more citrusy/clean when compared to Carlisle. It opens up with Lavendar and Mandarin Orange notes, then you get hit with floral and cinnamon and finally it dries down to reveal woody/musky/amber notes.

Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

This is one of my all-time favorite men’s fragrances. Le Male is so classic, with a cult-following dating back to 1995. The nose behind this fragrance is none other than Francis Kurkdjian (yea, that Kurkdjian) so it’s no wonder this scent is delicious. Top notes are Lavender, Mint, Cardamom, Bergamot and Artemisia; middle notes are Cinnamon, Orange Blossom and Caraway; base notes are Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Amber, Sandalwood and Cedar. It’s sweet, clean, a bit of fresh spicy in there. Your man will love it, but you’ll love it even more smelling it on him.
